Cuba. The island trapped in time is now easier to visit with US and Cuban relations thawing. Famous for it’s white sand beaches, cigars and rum, Cuba is the next adventurous destination in the Caribbean. From incredible diving and snorkeling locations (shipwrecks anyone?) to deep sea fishing, Cuba is offering a fantastic time to the water enthusiast.
And now there is a whole new market opening up in south Florida for charters into Cuba. At the end of 2015, a West Palm Beach Captain took 12 of the first visitors from the US in the first legal charter from Key West, Florida to Havana. “After President Obama’s historic December [2014] announcement restoring diplomatic ties with Cuba, he filed an application with the U.S. Treasury, under its amended Cuban Assets Control Regulations (CACR), to expand his charter offerings to the island. He expected the application to be rejected. But after seven months of back-and-forth with government agencies, two licenses arrived July 2, giving him the green light — the first in the nation for a yacht company”.
It will be exciting to see what 2016 brings to this uncharted territory and the opportunities it opens up for our fishing and yacht charter clients!
